Social Networking Spurs on Broadband Sales

The Home Advisory Service has often reported on the increasing reliance on broadband in the UK. Although slow to catch on, the increase in signups to broadband networks in the last 2 years has been phenomenal. In a recent survey conducted by communications watchdog OFCOM it appears that more adults in the UK are making use of Social Networking Sites than our European neighbours.

You may remember HAS reported some time ago that a report was produced which stated the concerns of a number of companies regarding the use of social networking sites whilst at work. This latest report from OFCOM is evidence of the increasing reliance on social networking as a communication tool among the older generation.

It reports that 4 out of 10 UK adults with broadband internet access is now a member of a Social networking community compared with only 17% in France, 12% in Germany and 22% in Italy.

This is evidence that the increasing value in terms of Broadband packages and connections is continuing to attract an ever increasing volume of users across a much wider demographic. The survey also highlights that as in the USA the split between men and women users is fairly equal. This ever increasing reliance on internet access is such that it’s now estimated 40% of UK households now have a bundled service which includes a flat rate fee for TV, Home Phone and Broadband.

The knock on effect is gaining in momentum with internet advertising revenues on the rise along with telecoms services. In particular Telecom revenue has risen a staggering £57m since 2001 as companies strive to increase network revenue.

The global reliance on modern communications technologies continues to grow at a staggering pace.
